Then you may be a good fit for Job Corps’ Certified Nurse Assistant training program. 

On the job, you will ...

  • Clean and bathe patients 
  • Help patients use the toilet and dress 
  • Turn, reposition and transfer patients from beds to wheelchairs 
  • Measure patient vital signs such as blood pressure and temperature 
  • Serve meals and support feeding 
  • Record patients’ health concerns and report information to nursing/management staff 

Some of the career options you will have ... 

Individuals with their certified nurse assistant credentials often go on to work in hospitals, senior living facilities, schools, clinics, home health care agencies and more. Some also go on to be phlebotomy technicians or electrocardiogram (EKG) technicians

In addition, completion of the Certified Nurse Assistant program is a prerequisite for Job Corps’ Advanced Training Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program, which prepares students for additional health care career opportunities.

The credentials you will earn ...

In the Certified Nurse Assistant training program, you will earn nationally recognized credentials and a state-issued credential/license. 

  • Certified nurse assistant license 
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers 
  • Heartsaver® Bloodborne Pathogens 

Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of the program. 

What you’ll need to start training ... 

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers) 
  • Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses 
  • Passing scores on all written and performance tests 
  • Meet academic (math and reading) requirements 
  • Compliance with state requirements that may involve a criminal background check, and completion of a training program meeting state content requirements

Violet Cypher
Violet Cypher brings over 40 years of career experience to her role as the Certified Nurse Assistant instructor at Gary Job Corps Center. She has worked in a variety of health care settings, including nursing homes and hospitals. Violet has taught at Job Corps for nearly 15 years and enjoys helping students jump-start their careers.
Tarliece Battle
Tarliece Battle has served as Certified Nurse Assistant instructor at Gary Job Corps Center for over 10 years and previously worked in the nursing field for 25 years. Her favorite part of nursing is being able to now teach it. Tarliece also enjoys encouraging students to further their education.
